Family and history of Kaolia Berylstar:

Kaolia was born in the early hours of the morning on the 13th day of December in 583. Her mother’s name was Pyri Berylstar, and my father Emmeron. She is the youngest child sired by our father. She has one older brother, Kyan (myself), and one older sister, Diamante. Her birth home is a meadow by a lake, off a road in Emuria. Kaolia's mother, Pyri, was one of the great fable-tellers of the clan. Her mother often took care of the other children of the clan, whom she enthralled with her talent. Pyri's gifts also lie with the earth magics. From early on in Kaolia's childhood, Pyri taught her how to read and write, and then to mend simple wounds and diagnose common injuries.

Kaolia was a happy child, always filled with energy and an urge to cause some form of mischief. Being a young child, nobody minded her little schemes. Her favorite "partner in crime" was our beloved sister Dia, older than Kaolia by four months, who shared her love for giving hugs. Dia was born to Emmeron’s wife, Dolomy, on the 31st of August of the same year as Kaolia. Most of their time was spent with each other – they were inseparable – and there were few nights that they did not fall asleep cuddled together somewhere.

In the year 597, the clan was found traveling the mountains of Emuria and happened upon the town of Autumn Glen. Little did we know of the evil Lich that governed over the dour town, but we were more interested in offering our much needed services and entertainment to the town. As the night went on and the entertainment reached its peak, disaster fell on the unlucky crew. The legions of undead that belonged to the Lich proceeded to annihilate the clan.

Luckily, Dia and Kaolia had been too young to partake in the greater number of the festivities that evening, they had remained in their wagon when the fighting began. Dia’s mother Dolomy had been in the wagon at the same time, and was able to protect them using her abilities with the celestial magics. Sorely pressed, she had been able to hold off the undead long enough for the two young girls to escape the wagon and into the forest. Kaolia did not see her mother’s fate and held out little hope of her survival.

Dia and Kaolia, at the tender age of 13, were left to wander the wilderness by themselves. The horrors they had witnessed that night left them feeling vulnerable and alone and they were relieved to a small extent that they had at least each other for the long and lonely days ahead of them. With her meager knowledge of the earth magic Kaolia was able keep the two healthy through their arduous journey; Dia with her limited amount of knowledge of celestial magic she was able to protect them from a few creatures. If they happened into a larger scrape, their legs so trained for running from trouble we got ourselves into when times were happier in our clan, saved from sure death.

Two years of traveling took them down from the mountains across the country of Emuria not far from the new town of Ashton. As they drew nearer to the town, rumors floated back to them of Berylstars in the area. Great was their excitement, but doubts still tugged at Kaolia's travel-weary heart. They decided that Dia would enter the town and return with news, good or bad.

On that same day Kaolia went out to walk in the surrounding woods, feeling far lonelier than before with her older sister gone. Only a few miles from the town, she was attacked by a small group of goblins. Terrified to the bone, all Kaolia was able to do was run – using the chaos magics was beyond her - and still is to this day - for her one encounter with it that fateful night two years ago had scarred her deeply. Running for her life, her legs carried her further and further away from the town, and even after the goblins gave up chasing, she continued to run in blind panic.

Exhausted like never before, Kaolia collapsed by a little stream. The days to come she would spend alone, completely so, for the first time in her life. Not knowing what direction to go or how to find her sister again, Kaolia wandered aimlessly until after some days she came upon a road and encountered a wagon train of merchants. As a lone and worn girl, she posed no threat and they took her into their caravan. The next two years of her life she spent with those people, growing close yet never feeling at home. Finding a woman in the train that had mastered the earth magics a long time ago enabled Kaolia to continue her studies and progress with her learning. The woman gladly took Kaolia up and treated Kaolia as her own daughter; as the woman had none of her own.

It was in January of the year 600 that her life took a turn for the better. The merchant caravan did most of its traveling in Dyllaria, and on its last trip that month to the recaptured town of Helmwood, Kaolia saw her sister walking proudly on the snowy trail towards that very town next to another caravan. Their joy of seeing each other alive and whole once again was the greatest joy for the two of them and you couldn’t have pulled them apart, even with the strength of a thousand giants! Leaving behind the her caravan was not easy, yet Kaolia's dear guardian understood all too well her joy and let her go on her way. Reunited, Dia and Kaolia traveled together, practically hand-in-hand (fused at the shoulder) and needed only their own company. Discovering that she had found more clan members was another great surprise. Eager to hear all that had occurred to the other, they talked without end. Sadly, upon discussion with Kaolia, I had to inform her our father had taken his permanent death at the foul hands of those beasts. Telling it a second time made it no easier than before to handle.
