Hot racing at Dixon

The afternoon temperature may have reached 108 degrees at Dixon, but it did not deter the enthusiasm of the AHRMA VMX racers and volunteers. The program started on time and ran like clockwork, with the last of 12 motos being completed well before two o'clock. 130 entries enjoyed the track designed by Rob Poole. The design allowed for passing in many places. The competitors took advantage of it, some passing each other four to five times each lap. So, not only was the temp hot, but so was the racing!

The trophy presentation was certainly heart-warming. Last year, eighty four year old AHRMA competitor, Jim McDannald lost his house and all his motorcycles in a fire. At Dixon, Jim was presented with a green Greeves rugby shirt, a copy of a Greeves ad from Nick Nicholson's shop and a newly restored Greeves Challenger. The neat part of the presentation, Tom Bentley was giving Jim the jersey and the ad copy, he then said we had something else we wanted him to have. At that time, we heard the Greeves fire up in the pits and Kenny rode it through the crowd to Jim. It was very touching.

Kenny Sykes restored the beautiful machine. Friends of Jim contributed money and parts toward the restoration. We thank all who made this happen, especially Kenny, for all the time he put in on this wonderful project.
